The Inclusive Programming Division will be hosting Inclusive Schools Week on December 1-4. Mark your calendars! We have four exciting events, one on each day after school, at schools around the District. Our aim is to celebrate all DCPS students through fun, interactive experiences while also providing information and resources about inclusive practices to families, DCPS staff, andcommunity members. Please see the Inclusive Schools Week flyer for more information.


Dec 1: Kick-off! Inclusive Carnival at Oyster from 4:00–6:00pm. Booths and interactive activities for all, with an intended audience of elementary school students, their families and the community. Activities include carnival games, face painters, fortune tellers, and clowns. The Amidon Bowen choir will perform and McGruff the Crime Dog will be there.

Dec 2: Inclusive STEM Demo Day at Kelly Miller from 4:30-6:30pm. Participating STEM and Art clubs from multiple DCPS schools will attend including Wilson Robotics, McKinley Robotics, McKinley Rocketry Club, Keller Miller Art, and Duke Ellington Poetry. Activities include robotics and technology demonstrations and engineering contests for attendees. Other outside organizations in attendance include the C3 Cyber Club, #showoff, City Wide Training Center, Technology Advanced Gaming (TAG) Centers, and Living Classrooms.

Dec 3: Inclusive Extracurricular Activities Fair at Wilson from 4:00-6:00 pm. DCPS clubs and outside clubs/organizations will share information about activities and inclusion. Organizations in attendance include Metro Teen Aids, Teens Run DC, #showoff, DJ EZ Street (93.9 WKYS), Joy of Motion Dance Studio, and Sitar Arts Center.

Dec 4: Scholastic Speaker Karen Krey on “Inclusive Best Practices” at Barnard from 4:00-6:00pm.

The speaker will establish at home strategies to extend learning and independent practices outside the classroom and provide educators strategies to help all students read and interact with high-quality, complex texts.
